Permits for Lawyers and Jurists Outside Québec

 
The Barreau du Québec is in favor of lawyers mobility in Québec. Accordingly, it is authorized to issue special authorization to practice in Québec and different types of permits. The Canadian and foreign lawyers are invited to consult the following Webpages to obtain more information.

 

TEMPORARY MOBILITY
(Not exceeding 12 months, may be renewed)
Special authorization to practice law in Québec

 

RESTRICTIVE PERMIT
(Applicants must annually complete the annual registration of the Barreau du Québec
AND renew the permit)
Temporary restrictive permit
  • Temporary restrictive permit: Canadian or foreign lawyer, seeking admission to the profession, who has obtained a decision from the Equivalences Committee of the Barreau du Québec
Restrictive solicitor permit
  • Restrictive solicitor permit - Section 55: Member of the bar of another province or a territory of Canada, for the exclusive account of his employer or its subsidiaries
  • Restrictive solicitor permit - Section 56: Professor who has been teaching law full time for at least three years in a law faculty or a department of legal studies which grants a diploma recognized by the Government pursuant to section 184 of the Professional Code

 

PERMANENT MOBILITY
(Applicants must annually complete the annual registration of the Barreau du Québec)
Full permit following equivalences: becoming a member of the Barreau du Québec
Special permit
