L'assemblée générale annuelle du Barreau de Montréal aura lieu le mercredi, 2 mai 2001 à 17 h 30, au Salon Maisonneuve de l'hôtel Inter-Continental (360, rue Saint-Antoine Ouest). Un membre qui désire soumettre une question doit en donner avis écrit au secrétariat avant 17 h, le 2 avril 2001, pour qu'elle soit portée à l'ordre du jour.
Les affaires de la section sont gérées par un conseil composé de 13 membres élus lors de l'assemblée générale annuelle.
Le mandat des membres dont les noms suivent se termine le 2 mai 2001: le bâtonnier Me Michel A. Pinsonnault, le premier conseiller Me Richard Wagner, le trésorier Me Donald Devine, le secrétaire Me Martin F. Sheehan, les conseillers Me Zavie Levine, Me Robert P. Charlton, Me Stéphane Rivard, Me Maurice Cloutier, et le représentant de l'Association du Jeune Barreau de Montréal, Me Philippe J. Laurin.
Le mandat des conseillers mentionnés ci-après se prolonge jusqu'à l'élection de 2002: Me Pierre Séguin, Me Isabel J. Schurman, Me Guylène Beaugé et Me Michèle Moreau.
Parmi les membres du Conseil, y compris les officiers, huit doivent être de langue française et quatre de langue anglaise. Le treizième conseiller, qui siège à titre de représentant de l'Association du Jeune Barreau de Montréal, est choisi parmi les avocats d'au plus 10 ans d'exercice et peut être anglophone ou francophone. La représentation ci-dessus décrite découle d'une tradition confirmée par l'article 27 du règlement général du Barreau de Montréal.
Il y aura à élire cette année, pour un mandat d'un an: le bâtonnier (francophone cette année, suivant une tradition qui n'est pas contraignante mais qui remonte à 1922, à l'effet qu'il y ait un bâtonnier de langue française deux ans de suite et un bâtonnier de langue anglaise la troisième année), le premier conseiller, le trésorier et le secrétaire (anglophones), le représentant de l'Association du Jeune Barreau de Montréal (francophone ou anglophone); pour un mandat de deux ans: quatre conseillers francophones
Sont éligibles à un poste d'officier ou de conseiller, les avocats en exercice de la section de Montréal qui ont versé leurs cotisations pour l'année 2001-2002, conformément au paragraphe 2 de l'article 68 de la Loi sur le Barreau.
La mise en candidature se fait par un bulletin de présentation, indiquant le poste convoité, signé par au moins deux et au plus 10 membres de la section. Ce bulletin doit être déposé au secrétariat avant 17 h, le 2 avril 2001.

The Annual General Meeting of The Bar of Montreal will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at 5:30 P.M., in the Maisonneuve Room of the Inter-Continental Hotel (360, Saint-Antoine Street West). A member who wishes to submit a question at the meeting must transmit it in writing to the office of The Bar of Montreal before 5:00 P.M., on April 2, 2001 in order to have it placed on the agenda.
The affairs of the Section are managed by a council composed of 13 members elected at the Annual General Meeting.
The term of office of the members whose names follow expires on May 2, 2001: Bâtonnier Mtre Michel A. Pinsonnault, First Councillor Mtre Richard Wagner, Treasurer Mtre Donald Devine, Secretary Mtre Martin F. Sheehan, Councillors Mtre Zavie Levine, Mtre Robert P. Charlton, Mtre Stéphane Rivard, Mtre Maurice Cloutier and the representative of the Junior Bar Association of Montreal, Mtre Philippe J. Laurin.

The above described representation follows a tradition confirmed by article 27 of the General By-law of The Bar of Montreal.
To be elected this year for one-year term: Bâtonnier (*French-speaking this year, according to a tradition which is not constraining but goes back to 1922, that a French-speaking Bâtonnier be elected two years in succession and an English-speaking Bâtonnier the third year), First Councillor, Treasurer and Secretary (English-speaking), Representative of the Junior Bar Association of Montreal (French or English-speaking); for two-year term: Four (4) French-speaking councillors.
Are eligible as a candidate for the position of officer or councillor, practising lawyers of the Section of Montreal who have paid their contribution for the year 2001-2002 in accordance with subsection 2 of section 68 of An Act respecting the Barreau du Québec.
Nomination of candidates is made by a nomination form indicating the post sought, signed by at least two (2) and not more than ten (10) members of the Section and deposited with the secretariat of The Bar of Montreal before 5:00 P.M., on April 2, 2001.
