Permit to practise

Application to the Barreau du Québec for an equivalence

To obtain a temporary restrictive permit or a full permit (foreign lawyer or jurist) for the purpose of becoming a member of the Barreau du Québec and being authorized to practise law in Québec, you must file an application for equivalence.

How to file your application

Before beginning the process of applying for an equivalence in order to become a lawyer in Québec, you must read the Information document for applications for equivalence recognition by foreign lawyers or jurists.

You must then fill out the Application for equivalence recognition by a foreign lawyer or jurist, print it out and return it to the Barreau together with the relevant documents.

Recognized courses

For purposes of a diploma equivalence, a list of courses recognized by the Equivalences Committee of the Barreau du Québec is available.
