Wills and mandates

Transfer or handing over of documents

A lawyer who ceases to practise or takes on new duties must transfer or hand over the documents that have been filed with him.

What happens if a lawyer stops practising?

If a lawyer stops practising or ceases his activities with respect to wills or mandates, he must, using the form provided for that purpose, notify the Barreau's registrar 30 days preceding the date on which he ceases to practise, ceases the activities or takes on a new position. In this way, the Barreau will receive notice of the name and contact information of the new lawyer in charge of the wills or mandates so it can inform those performing searches.
