He may use the prefix “Me” or “Mtre” before his name provided it is followed by the title “retired advocate”; he may not, however, assume the title of advocate or attorney, verbally or otherwise, or practise the profession of advocate, in particular perform the acts described in section 128 of the Act respecting the Barreau du Québec, including pleading or acting before a tribunal referred to in subparagraphs 1 to 7 of paragraph a of subsection 2 of that section. Distinction between "practising advocate" and "retired advocate with restricted right to practise" Retired advocates with restricted right to practise are 55 years of age or over. They may use the prefix "Me" or "Mtre" after their name, provided it is followed by the title "retired advocate". However, they may not assume the title of advocate or attorney, verbally or otherwise. Nevertheless, retired advocates with restricted right to practise may: 1. perform the acts referred to in subsection 1 of section 128 of the Act respecting the Barreau du Québec for others, but only within the framework of their practice within a non-profit legal person; 2. if duly certified, act as certified small claims mediators.
