Whether you are a law student at a Quebec university, a Canadian or French lawyer, or a foreign lawyer or jurist, practicing law in Quebec requires you to obtain a permit to practice from the Barreau du Québec. This section outlines the different paths to take depending on your specific situation and provides direct access so you can learn about and understand the steps to take to become a lawyer in good standing in Quebec.

Please note that under section 35 of the Charter of the French Language, professional orders may issue permits only to persons who have adequate knowledge of the official language to practice the profession.
